Daily Market Insight – 2026-10-26

Midday snapshot, Monday, October 26, 2026 (~12:00 p.m. ET). Intraday figures move through the session; all prices are intraday snapshots from the sources listed below.

  • SPY (S&P 500): +0.73% intraday
  • QQQ (Nasdaq-100): +1.29% to $713.51
  • DIA (Dow): +0.65%
  • IWM (Russell 2000): +0.71% to $277.72

Stocks bounced back from Friday’s selloff, with tech leading. Friday’s session had been weak and narrow: the S&P 500 fell 0.52% to 7,623.68, the Dow fell 1.23% to 52,215.16, and breadth was negative (3,262 advancers vs. 6,348 decliners at Friday’s close). Context for the week: big-tech earnings (Alphabet and Microsoft report Wednesday) and the Federal Reserve’s rate decision Wednesday, with markets pricing rates unchanged.

Rotation Read

Risk-on reversal from Friday. On Friday, Energy (+2.60%) was the only clear winner as oil spiked on Middle East tensions, while Industrials (-1.27%), Communication Services (-1.78%) and Consumer Discretionary (-1.66%) lagged. Today that flipped: Technology and Industrials lead, Energy cooled to near-flat as crude gave back ~2%, and defensives (Staples, Health Care) plus Communication Services lag. Falling VIX and a steady ~5% 10-year yield fit a relief bounce into growth/cyclicals ahead of earnings and the Fed — not a broad defensive rotation.
