Daily Market Insight – 2026-11-03

Stocks bounced on Election Day after Monday’s selloff, led by a chip rebound, while the Dow lagged. As of around midday ET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were higher, small caps joined the bounce, and volatility eased from Monday’s close even as the 10-year Treasury yield pushed toward 5%.

Market Snapshot

  • SPY (S&P 500): $755.33, +0.44%
  • QQQ (Nasdaq-100): $686.75, +0.84%
  • DIA (Dow Jones): $518.16, -0.22% — held back by Apple (AAPL) after its report
  • IWM (Russell 2000): $281.03, +0.68%
  • VIX: ~20.6, down roughly 2.7% from Monday’s 21.15 close — still above 20, so election-night caution is intact
  • 10-year Treasury yield: ~4.96%, up about 6 basis points from Monday’s 4.91% close

Advance/decline breadth was not available from the sources checked at midday.

Rotation Read

A sharp reversal from Monday. Technology (XLK) fell 2.95% and energy (XLE) fell 3.96% on Monday, when eight of eleven sectors still rose; today chips lead the rebound and XLK is the top sector. Industrials (XLI) follow through on Monday’s 1.38% gain. The flip side: Monday’s leaders are today’s laggards — materials (XLB, +1.76% Monday) and staples (XLP, +1.58% Monday) are both down about 1.6% at midday. The read is a risk-on bounce in growth and cyclicals after Monday’s tech-led selloff, not a broad risk-off day — but with the Dow negative and the VIX still above 20, the tape is far from calm heading into tonight’s midterm results, AMD’s earnings after the close, and Friday’s jobs report.

  • NVDA (Nvidia): +3.11% to $208.34, snapping a four-session losing streak as semis rebound
  • MU (Micron Technology): +2.23% to $852.22

Industrials (XLI, +1.22%)

  • GE (GE Aerospace): +1.52% to $320.58
